Q3 Revenues for Taiwan's Two Leading Airlines Show Encouraging Rise

2014/11/03 | By Judy Li

Taiwan's two leading airline companies—China Airlines (CAL) and Eva Airways—posted encouraging revenue growths in Q3 despite both showing monthly drop in revenues in September.

CAL posted revenues of NT$11.926 billion (US$397.53 million) in September, down 12.97% from a month earlier for the second consecutive monthly fall, but up 4% year on year.

In Q3 the company's revenues rose a quarterly 6.18% or annually 6.02% to NT$39.593 billion (US$1.32 billion) for the highest quarterly rise in four years.

Eva saw revenues in September drop 15.9% from the previous month to NT$10.747 billion (US$358.23 million), yet up  4.66% YoY, with Q3 revenues rising to NT$35.818 billion (US$1.194 billion) for a quarterly record high and up 12.1% from NT$31.938 billion (US$1.065 billion) of the previous quarter.

The two airlines' popular flights to Japan and South Korea will likely help generate obvious revenue growths in 2014, coupled with recovering sales of cargo flights.

In the firs nine months CAL scored NT$111.8 billion (US$3.73 billion) in revenues, up an annual  6.95%, with Eva's corresponding percentage being 5.97%. (JL)
