Acer's Revenues in Sept. Grow 40% MoM

2012/10/17 | By Andrew Wang

Taipei, Oct.17, 2012 (CENS)--Acer Inc., a Taiwanese vendor of branded PCs, saw non-consolidated revenues grow 40% month on month (MoM) to NT$37.605 billion (US$1.25 billion) in September, and is optimistic about performance in the peak season of fourth quarter.

Acer's non-consolidated revenues in the third quarter were NT$86.968 billion (US$2.9 billion), down 10.46% from the previous quarter.

A representative of Acer noted that the revenue growth in September was partly due to pull-in deliveries before release of Win 8, along with some delayed pull-in deliveries to September because of weak revenue performance in July, resulting in unbalanced shipments with rapidly-changing revenues.

J.T. Wang, chairman of Acer, pointed out that with consideration of slowing global economy and uncertainty of Win 8 effect, the firm is expected to see operation performance in the second half of 2012 grow slightly from the first. Among which, consolidated revenues and operation margin in the third quarter are estimated to maintain a similar level with the former quarter, with consolidated revenues in the fourth quarter rising 5~10% from a quarter earlier.

Since Hewlett-Packard Company, the world's largest PC maker, announced a profit warning recently, foreign investors are highly cautious with Taiwanese PC downstream manufacturers.

A market insider noted that with sales driven by release of Win 8 in the end of October, NB makers witnessed shipments up 25% MoM in September, however, still lower than the expected 32%. Shipments of NBs are expected to peak in October and gradually shrink after November.

NB makers are relatively cautious toward operations in November and December, as demand for Win 8 seems insufficient.
