Elan Microelectronics' September Revenues Hit Record High

2012/10/15 | By Andrew Wang

Taipei, Oct.15, 2012 (CENS)--Elan Microelectronics Corp., a leading IC designer in Taiwan, posted NT$718 million (US$23.93 million) in September revenues, a new historical high again, totaling NT$2.03 billion (US$67.67 million) in the third quarter for another historical record. Ali Corporation, another Taiwanese IC design house, saw consolidated revenues in September increase 55% month on month (MoM) to NT$551 million (US$18.37 million), the second highest this year, with a 5% quarter on quarter (QoQ) decline in the third quarter, better than the firm's previous estimate of 14~20%.

Elan's touch-IC shipments for smartphones, tablet PCs, and laptops have boosted monthly revenues in the third quarter to plateaus. Despite traditional low season in the fourth quarter, Elan's touch-IC shipments for Win8 are growing continuously, offsetting seasonality.

Ali's shipments of digital set-top box chips this year have been growing since last year. But due to Ramadan in July and August, along with early deliveries to customers in the second quarter, the firm suddenly faced inventory pressure in July, with predicted 14~20% QoQ decline in shipments.

Ali saw retail orders rapidly returning in September, boosting consolidated revenues to 55% and totaling NT$1.222 billion (US$40.73 million) in the third quarter, higher than expectation, with earnings per share (EPS) in the third quarter expected to exceed the previously-estimated NT$0.4~0.43 (US$0.013~0.014).

A representative of Ali says as end-market demand for digital set-top box keeps rising, improving inventory adjustments by most distributors, simultaneous demand growth for high-definition and standard-definition products is predicted in the retail market. Besides, with market growth in terrestrial broadcasting products due to continuous analog-to-digital signal conversion in Southern Europe, market recovery for Pay-TV operators, and gradually-coming peak season in China, Ali's sales is expected to grow in the fourth quarter.
