Taiwan's NB Makers Enjoy Booming Revenues in September

2012/10/11 | By Renee Chen

Taipei, Oct. 11, 2012 (CENS)--Driven by the coming launch of Win 8 from Microsoft, Taiwan's NB shipments in September will likely increased 30% month on month (MoM), according to institutional investors.

Despite rosy projections for NB shipments, some component producers reveal worse-than-expected orders, and the coming Christmas sales might simmer as usual.

Due mainly to the close launch dates of Win8 and iPad mini and iPhone 5, sales of NBs in the fourth quarter might be diluted by their launches.

Compal Electronics, Inc., a major NB maker in Taiwan, predicts revenues in the fourth quarter to surge over 20% quarter on quarter (QoQ), to be the company with the greatest growth momentum in the fourth quarter in Taiwan.

As to third-quarterly shipments by leading NB makers in Taiwan, Quanta's third-quarterly NB shipments reached about 14 million units, rising 4% QoQ; Compal's shipments totaled about 9.8 million units, up 8% QoQ. However, both Wistron and Pegatron saw downtrends in third-quarterly NB shipments from a quarter earlier.

According to Topology Research Institute (TRI), a Taiwanese research institute specializing in tech industry analysis, the boost to NB sales triggered by the launch of Win 8 would be in the second half of 2013 or 2014, due to uncertain global economies recently.
