Lextar, Unity Opto Score Record Sales in September

Taipei, Oct. 9, 2012 (CENS)--Taiwan's Unity Opto Technology Co., Ltd. saw its revenue reach a new high of NT$902 million (US$30 million at US$1:NT$30) in September while Lextar Electronics Corp.'s consolidated revenue of NT$1 billion (US$33.5 million) for the month hit a hit a 26-month high.

Unity Opto pointed out that its growth potential remains strong in October thanks to mainland China's subsidization to LCD TV consumers and rollouts of touch-screen laptops by many PC makers. Both drive up demands for LED backlights, a major product at Unity and Lextar.

Unity Opto executives estimated the two factors will push back low-season effect, which usually happen in the fourth quarter, by at lest two months.

In the first three quarters this year, Unity Opto had total revenue of NT$5.2 billion (US$174 million), reaching 90% of its total NT$5.7 billion (US$192 million) for 2011.

Industry executives estimated the company's total revenue for this year to rise by at least 30% from last year.

Unity Opto executives pointed out that the penetration of LED backlight already reached 70% in TV market in the third quarter and will further enlarge due to increased sales of TVs lit by direct view backlights.

Lextar had consolidated revenue of NT$2.8 billion (US$96.4 million) in the third quarter alone, up 10.8% from the second quarter and 14.9% year on year. The company's executives ascribed the increase mostly to increased shipments of LEDs for backlights and lighting.
