Air and Marine Shippers in Taiwan See July Revenues Hit New Highs

2012/08/14 | By Renee Chen

Taipei, Aug. 14, 2012 (CENS)--Entering the traditional peak from June to September for the air and marine shippers, China Airlines, Eva Airlines, and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. saw promising revenues in July.

According to China Airlines, the firm posted revenue of NT$ 12.42 billion

(US$ 414 million) in July, with NT$ 8.47 billion (US$ 282.3 million) from passenger transport and NT$ 3.424 billion (US$ 114.13 million) from freight transport, hitting a monthly high since August 2010.

Eva Airlines’ revenue hit a monthly high of NT$ 10.047 billion (US$ 334.9 million) in July, with NT$ 6.586 billion (US$ 219.53 million) from passenger transport and NT$ 2.822 billion (US$ 94.6 million) from freight transport.

Insiders say that China Airlines and Eva Airlines enjoyed good revenues in July due mainly to peaks in tourism and stable growth of freight transport, and that revenues would continue to peak in August but fall slightly after September.

Institutional investors indicated that many electronic companies will launch new products as notebooks and smartphones in the second half, whose shipment volumes could drive freight transport revenues in the fourth quarter.

Yang Ming Marine’s revenue reached NT$ 10.267 billion

(US$ 342.23 million) in July, a new monthly high since September 2010. Institutional investors added that the firm’s good revenue could be attributed to rising freightage on European routes in June, which drove up revenues in July. And the shipper’s third-quarterly revenue is estimated to set a record high this year.
