CENS Inks Cooperation Pact with D&B

Taipei, Aug. 8, 2012 (CENS)--A cooperation pact that the China Economic News Service (CENS) signed with Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. yesterday will help reinforce the global competitiveness of CENS clients. Under the agreement, D&B will provide its D-U-N-S Number to the clients, giving them easy access to international buyers and markets.

Established in 1974, CENS is Taiwan's most authoritative publisher of trade journals, providing a variety of export-oriented publications including CENS Lighting, CENS Hardware, CENS Furniture, Taiwan Machinery, and Transportation Equipment Guide (to name just a few), all of which are popular with buyers around the world.

The role played by CENS became more important than ever when the company went online in 1995, enabling it to serve as a more vital bridge between domestic manufacturers and overseas buyers via a platform that offers comprehensive information on Taiwan's industries and the products of its clients.

With a history of more than 170 years, D&B is a prominent U.S.-based enterprise information supplier that maintains a database of over 200 million companies globally. The company divides its products and services into three categories: risk management, sales & marketing, and supply chain management.

In 1962 D&B set up its Data Universal Numbering System--the D-U-N-S Number--which is a distinctive nine-digit identification sequence enabling its clients to link to a wealth of quality information on products and services originating exclusively from D&B.

Michelle Sun, general manager of D&B Taiwan Branch, noted that the D-U-N-S Number is an internationally recognized common company identifier in EDI and global electronic commerce transactions. Today the Number has become the standard for keeping track of the world's businesses.

“D&B's products and services are drawn from a global database of more than 89 million companies,” Sun said. “We gather business information in over 214 countries around the world, in 95 languages or dialects, covering 181 monetary currencies. The database is refreshed 1.5 million times a day as part of D&B's commitment to providing accurate, comprehensive information for its more than 150,000 customers, which include more than 80% of the Fortune 500.”

About three years ago D&B signed a cooperation agreement with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a government-backed trade promoter here, and has since helped TAITRA's online clients seek out market niches in the world arena. “Our efforts have won praises and positive comments from TAITRA,” Sun stated proudly.

She said that D&B is very pleased to cooperate with CENS and voiced the belief that the new arrangement would further deepen its roots in Taiwan while helping CENS to better serve its clients via the D&B database.

CENS president Ringo Lee pointed out that CENS is regarded by manufacturers as a reliable trade promoter as well as a provider of economic and industrial news to some 15 professional media around the world, including Dow Jones, Reuters, and the Financial Times. “Starting this year,” he added, “CENS has established a nine-language marketing channel dubbed the ‘CENS Global Pass' for its advertising clients. And today's inking of the cooperation pact with D&B seems like adding wings to a tiger, because it will strengthen CENS in helping its clients explore the world market more efficiently and comprehensively.”

D&B has 246 branches around the world, a global workforce of 4,700 persons, and revenues of about NT$52.7 billion (US$1.76 billion) a year. Since 2006 D&B has been named by Fortune Magazine as the most admired company five years in a row.
