FOREPI's LEDs Enter Into Mainland China's LCD TVs

Taipei, June 28, 2012 (CENS)--Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI) Chairman F.R. Chien recently said the company will supply LED devices to LCD TVs and lighting supplied by mainland Chinese manufacturers via its Japanese shareholder Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

The company will begin to ship the devices sometime in the third quarter. According to Chien, the orders will keep the company's production lines busy throughout the first quarter next year.

He noted that in the second half of this year the mainland's economic stimulus packages and subsidization project for rural consumers of LCD TVs would give a boost to the mainland market for LEDs, which are built into the TVs as backlights.

To keep up with strong demands from the mainland's LCD TV makers, the company is vigorously boosting output. So far, the company's production capacity has been laden with orders.

Chien said that the company will add 18 to 20 MOCVD (metal organic chemical vapor deposition) chambers by the end of this year to its production lines.

As part of its expansion plan, the company's production lines of 4-inch epitaxy wafers will come on stream in the third quarter to supply TV makers the chips.

Chien pointed out the company won these contracts thanks to Mitsui's recommendations to the mainland's buyers. Mitsui is also helping FOREPI tap markets outside the Chinese mainland.

The company has rolled out 210 lumen-watt chips with the aim of making the chips available in TVs and lamps.
