Taipei, June 25, 2012 (CENS)--As of the last day of the three-day Taiwan Photonics Festival 2012, which was composed of co-located Opto Taiwan, LED Lighting Taiwan, Solar Taiwan and OptoComm Taiwan shows, over US$1.5 billion of deals had been secured at the four shows, according to co-organizer Photonic Industry Technology & Development Association (PIDA).

The trade shows were staged on June 19-21 at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall run by the quasi-official Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

PIDA pointed out that over 660 individual buyers from 30 countries and regions registered in advance to visit the shows this year, increasing 41% from last year. However, over 2,500 buyers showed up at the fairs in the first two days.

PIDA's data showed that buyers present at the one-on-one procurement meetings arranged on the sideline of the 2012 fairs were 2.2 folds the number of participants in last year's meetings.

Approximately 20 buyers from 15 economies came this year for LCD panels. They include Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba, Future Electronics, Electronics GMBH, and SEM. Mainland Chinese LCD TV makers also organized a prominent trade mission to shop for the panels during the shows.

A total of 90 sessions of procurement meeting were set up for LCD panel trade this year, increasing 114% from last year's 42 sessions.

Of the four shows, the LED lighting event alone drew around 40 light-fitting buyers from some 10 countries, including the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Turkey, White Russia, and Thailand.

Mainland China organized procurement missions with a record number of around 500 individual buyers participating in the four shows. Also, mainland Chinese organized 31 exhibitors to take part in the four shows this year.

This year, a total of 253 exhibitors displayed their latest products at 797 booths at the four shows this year, up 18% and 17%, respectively, from the 2011 event. Another impressive fact is that 50% more mainland Chinese exhibitors participated in the show this year, compared to last year.

On the LED lighting show ground, horticultural applications of LED lighting and LED lighting brands took center stage at the show. This year, around 200 exhibitors signed up for lighting brand section. Heavyweight exhibitors from overseas and the island include Nichia, Cree, Osram, Everlight, Seoul Semiconductor, Lite-On, Delta Electronics, Edison Opto, Epistar, Formosa Epitaxy, and Neo-Neon.
