Taipei, Jun. 19, 2012 (CENS)--In line with the government's plan to promote Taiwan's exports of cloud-related services and cultural and creative content, Chunghwa Telecom Co., the largest telecom service provider in Taiwan, is going to set up a joint venture to engage in cloud services in cooperation with the U.S-based, globally famous 3D animation company, Rhythm and Hues Studio (R&H), confirmed the Taiwanese party.

Without a concrete timetable given, Chunghwa Telecom emphasized that the joint venture project is still under negotiation between the two parties over respective shareholding proportions of the venture, with paid-in capital to be less than NT$1 billion.

Inspired by the Taiwanese government's efforts to solicit foreign investments, R&H, one of the world's top five visual effect developers now, has decided to carry out three investment projects on the island, including the inauguration of its R&H VFX Studio in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, in the second half of this year and the establishment of 101 Film Fund.

The above-mentioned joint venture is also part of R&H's decided investment, which will be founded along with its first visual effect and cloud computing center in Taiwan.

Chunghwa Telecom president S.T. Chang indicated that visual effects is R&H's forte, which can be achieved through advanced computer technologies, and therefore cloud computing is very suitable for this purpose. In the future, Chang stressed, R&H's 3D content can be efficiently created in Taiwan and then provided to local filmmakers to bolster development of both the cloud and cultural and creative industries.

In the meantime, Chunghwa Telecom's executives revealed that the company will assist R&H in constructing a cloud platform to offer its 3D content stored in the database built in Taiwan. This will make R&H's first database enabled for cloud technology among the others running in the U.S., Canada and Indonesia. The executive continued that this database, through the cloud platform, is likely to be linkable to the others in the future, which can facilitate Taiwanese companies' exports of turn-key cloud-related service solutions worldwide.
