Teco to Turn Out 100,000 EV Motors Yearly in Northern Taiwan

Taipei, April 24, 2012 (CENS)--Teco Group, a leading maker of motors and heavy electro-mechanical products in Taiwan, recently claimed that its rim motors for electric-vehicles (EV) are expected to drive revenue growth in the near future.

The group has developed a series of rim motors which can be adopted by makers of four-, three- and two-wheel vehicles in China, Japan, Europe and the U.S.

Teco's factories in Chungli and Guanyin of Taoyuan County, northern Taiwan, are expected to produce about 100,000 rim motors per year, generating additional revenue exceeding NT$10 billion (US$333.3 million), Teco said.

C.K. Liu, Teco's chairman, confirmed at the 2012 Taiwan Int'l Electric Vehicle Show, held April 12-15, that Teco has tied up with international electric-scooter brand Vetrix to launch a high-end e-scooter with specifications similar to a 250cc internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, marking a major milestone for Teco to upgrade from a motor maker to an EV motor supplier.

Currently, Liu added, Teco is a top-three industrial motor manufacturer globally, and the group controls many key technologies from Japan in producing drag and rim motors.

Teco's latest e-scooter rim motors are jointly developed with Japanese experts. Japan's major EV maker SIM-Drive has launched EV prototypes adopting rim motors from Teco.

According to Liu, some Japanese automakers as Mitsubishi and Isuzu are also testing rim motors made by Teco, as well as other vehicle makers in Taiwan, China and Europe.

In March, Teco announced a rim motor for car application, capable of maximum speed of 150 kilometers per hour (Kph), cruising 333 kilometers (per charge), and 0-100kph acceleration in 4.8 seconds, also claiming to have won the ISO/TSO 16949 approval to be the first EV motor supplier do so in Taiwan.
