Japan's PTW Exports Grow in Dec. and Entire 2011: JAMA
2012/04/06 | By Quincy LiangJapan's exports of powered two-wheelers (PTWs), including motorcycles and scooters, increased both in December and the entire 2011, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, or JAMA.
The nation's PTW exports in December 2011 totaled 49,383 units, compared with 40,682 units for that of the previous year, for a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 8,701 units or 21.4%.
Exports of Japan-made PTWs totaled US$464.4 million in December of 2011 ( including US$328.4 million for vehicles and US$135.967million for parts), which is an increase of US$67.5 million or 17.0%, compared with US$396.9 million recorded a year earlier, according to JAMA statistics.

Japan's PTW exports for 2011 totaled 504,985 units, up 11,521 units or 2.3% compared with the 493,464 units in the previous year, with the export volume increasing last year after four years of downturn, JAMA says.
The total of PTWs exported in 2011 was US$4,698.9 million, including US$3,185.2 million for vehicles and US$1,513.7 million for parts, for an increase of US$284.4 million or 6.4% compared with US$4,414.6 million recorded in the previous year.
According to the JAMA, export shipments accounted for a 79.0% share of the total production of 638,987 units in Japan for 2011, compared with 74.3% for 2010.
Yamaha retained its long-term lead in PTW exports in 2011, shipping some 157,731 units, a 95.7% increase from the previous year.
Honda was the No. 2 PTW exporter last year by delivering some 121,914 units, but achieved the highest growth rate of 114.6% last year among counterparts.
