Public Transport ITS Market in Europe to Reach 1.3 B. Euro by 2015: Berg Insight

Taipei, Jan. 30, 2012 (CENS)--The market value for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) deployed in public transport operations in Europe was 0.65 billion euro in 2010, but is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% to 1.3 billion euro by 2015, according to analyst Berg Insight.

Taiwan's government has been urging the development of ITS on the island, to propel the rapid and effective development of intelligent vehicles and related hardware/software.

In recent years, both gasoline-engine and pure-electric vehicles developed by local automakers and research institutes come with ITS-compatible features.

The outlook for the European public transport ITS market is positive, even though individual markets may experience temporary fluctuations depending on the political climate and local developments, Berg Insight said. The vendor ecosystem for public transport ITS consists of a variety of actors. The companies INIT, Trapeze ITS and IVU have emerged as leaders in Europe, having wide product portfolios and large numbers of installed systems in many countries. There are also local players with considerable market shares on regional markets, including ACIS and INEO Systrans. Another group of vendors are focused on specific parts of complete ITS such as specialized hardware units or software applications.

“The ongoing deregulation of the public transport market in Europe spurs the adoption of sophisticated intelligent transport systems”, said Rickard Andersson, telecom analyst, Berg Insight. “The increasing number of companies and organizations involved in fulfilling public transport needs puts mounting demands on system compatibility and open interfaces for information flows to enable for example synchronized real-time passenger information for intermodal services”. Andersson further anticipates influence from OEM solutions, as public transport vehicle manufacturers to an increasing extent install factory-fitted on-board computers with global positioning system (GPS) positioning and wireless communication functionality.
