Global Prices of 60W LED Bulbs Continues Dropping

2012/01/19 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Jan. 19, 2012 (CENS)--Global prices of 60W LED bulbs have continued dropping over the months, which will help to speed up the replacement of the lighting for traditional incandescent lamps in the short term.

The market report issued by LEDinside, an LED market researcher, shows that the average global price of 60W LED bulbs declined 15% monthly to US$33.5 per unit in December 2011; the price even hit a nadir of US$18.9 in Korea. In the meantime, unit prices of the lighting in the U.S. and Japan also dropped 17% and 15%, respectively.

The report also points out that the global price of 40W LED bulbs kept spiraling downward to US$11.1 in December after a drastic drop seen a month ago. The price downtrend in Japan, LEDinside noted, was even more significant than that in any other country of the world.

The market researcher stated that fierce competition among suppliers in LED bulbs specifically for replacing traditional 60W incandescent lamps have resulted in huge price variation. For reasons, lightings with the wattage specification make up the majority of overall light bulb sales worldwide for the moment, motivating global brands to actively explore the segment with competitive prices.

Epistar Corp., a Taiwan-based large-sized LED supplier, forecast that the market for 60W LED bulbs will hopefully take off starting this year at the earliest, given the fact that the unit price averages US$12 in the fourth quarter of the year.
