AMOLED Market Revenue to Grow by About 10 Times 2010-2015: DisplayBank

Taipei, Nov. 21, 2011 (CENS)--The double-emission active matrix organic light-emit diode (AMOLED) panel market totaled US$1.4 billion in 2010, and is expected to increase to US$12.8 billion by 2015 when mass production technology is more stable, according to DisplayBank.

The Korea-based international display-market research firm pointed out demand for high-end display technology has been rapidly increasing in recent years as sales of "Smart" devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs, have been soaring.

AMOLED, with strong advantages of better color reproduction, faster response speed, and slim form factors, is deemed the highest-end display choice for various mobile devices.

Global panel makers are making major investments and engaging in R&D projects, which will help make AMOLED even more popular as application from 2012.

According to DisplayBank, Samsung is scheduled to soon unveil a new tablet PC equipped with high-end AMOLED screen, driving such advanced display technology further into the medium-sized application market. In addition, the Korean research firm said, the mass production technology for AMOLED TV panels is being developed actively by a group of pioneers headed by Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) and LG Display (formerly LG.Philips LCD), and large-sized AMOLED TV panels (around 55-inch) is expected to enter into market in 2012.
