Asustek Chairman Shih Invited to Address Asia D Conference

2011/09/19 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Sept. 19, 2011 (CENS)--The chairman of Asustek Computer Inc., Jonney Shih, has been invited to address the inaugural Asia D conference, held on October 19 in Hong Kong, as the only Taiwanese on the invitation list, manifesting that Shih and his company's achievements in technology development have been globally recognized.

In addition to Shih, the invitation list includes 12 other heavyweights, such as Google's vice president Andy Rubin, Sony Computer Entertainment's chairman Kazuo Hirai, Alibaba's CEO Jack Ma, Huawei North America R&D general manager John Roese, and Nvidia's CEO J.H. Huang, all of whom will give professional speeches on technology industry development at the conference.

Following years of dedication to PCDs, Asustek, one of the world's top five notebook PC vendors by market share now, has emerged as one of the most influential players in the field, whose high-profile Eee PC netbook and Eee Pad Transformer tablet are regarded as the main reason why Shih is invited to address the inaugural conference. This is especially significant when Asia D's organizer D Conference has been renowned as one of the biggest events for high-tech industries in the U.S.

Witnessing hot sales of its Transformer worldwide, the company is scheduled to bring the second-edition model to the market in October, which is reportedly skinner and lighter than the first edition, seen as the ace in the hole to capture huge business opportunities during the Christmas sales season. This year, the company's tablet sales are estimated at between 1.5 million and 2 million units.

Noteworthily, industry insiders noted that Google and Nvidia's participation in the conference along with Asustek's success with Transformer has also indicated the increasing significance of tablet PCs in the high-tech industry, considering that Google's Android OS and Nvidia's processors have been widely used in such devices as the trendsetters in the fast-growing market.
