Taiwan's Manpower Demand Forecast to Hit 1.5-Year Low in Q4

Taipei, Sept. 9, 2011 (CENS)--Some 75,800 persons are to be hired in the fourth quarter with 12,000 to leave the job market in Taiwan, resulting in net gain of 63,800 employed persons, a new low in one and half years, according to a survey by the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA).

Compared to a quarter earlier, the expected net increase in workforce in the fourth quarter will shrink by 40,000. However, Taiwan's payroll registered net quarterly increase of over 80,000 persons in the first three quarters, with the highest gain of 101,000 workers in the third quarter.

Some 34.38% of the polled enterprises reported intention of hiring more workers in the fourth quarter, with 55.61% reporting no new recruitment, 4.42% might lay off employees and 5.59% being undecided.

Manufacturers will recruit about 34,700 persons in the fourth quarter, 8,400 persons of which by the electronic & related parts sector and 4,400 persons by the metal manufacturing sector, with wholesalers to add 7,800 personnel, the supporting service sector 4,300 persons and financial services 3,700 persons.
