Hitachi to Keep Expanding Production Scale in Taiwan

Taipei, July 13, 2011 (CENS)--While Taiwanese household appliance manufacturers rush to invest in Southeast Asian countries to enjoy lower production and operating costs, Hitachi Ltd., a Japan-based enterprise of this kind, however is determined to keep expanding its production scale to reinforce its foothold in Taiwan.

Hitachi Taiwan has recently announced an investment plan to set up new production lines and an R&D lab for production of inverter compressors, and will recruit 50 to 100 more new workers in Taiwan, with the investment plan to be officially approved in September. Accordingly, the investment value will remain at the same level of between NT$300 million and NT$600 million as the past four years, reflecting the company's determination to keep focused in the market.

Masamichi Hanada, president of Hitachi Taiwan, said that the company has been established on the island for 42 years and has kept expanding its workforce, R&D and production. With the effort paying off, the company has become the largest air conditioner supplier in Taiwan, as well as the foremost manufacturer of this kind accredited with the MIT Smile Label for the moment. Such achievements, he furthered, will drive the company to keep investing in the market in the future.

Unlike its Taiwanese counterparts who have moved to construct new factories in China to boost economies of scale in production of compressors, the company has planned to set up new production lines for compressors used in commercial air conditioners, aiming to achieve annual output of more than 200,000 units in Taiwan through the newest investment plan.

The company now has a total of 1,600 employees, higher than 1,400 the company recorded in the past when Taiwan's household appliance industry prospered.
