Overseas exhibitors were thirsting after the vast market in mainland China, whose LED consumption will surpass the RMB100 billion (US$15.3 billion at RMB6.5: US$1) mark this year. (China's LED market topped RMB60 billion, or US$9.2 billion, last year.) Demand for LEDs in China has been bolstered by several mega events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. Beijing's energy-conservation policy has further boosted demand.
