Lite-On Aims to Rank Among World's Top 3 Camera Lens Module Suppliers

2011/02/23 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Feb. 23, 2011 (CENS)--Riding on the rise of smartphones along with new clients added, Lite-On Technology Corp., a leading supplier of electronic parts and components in Taiwan, has aimed to become one of the world's top three suppliers of camera lens modules in mid-2012 at the earliest, according to the firm's CEO K.C. Terng.

Industry insiders pointed out that global demand for digital camera modules and related components has significantly surged on increasing popularity of such consumer electronic devices as notebook PCs, mobile hones and, especially, smartphones. With 3D becoming the most talked-about trend, 3D smartphones that need three camera lenses each will further fuel demand for camera lens modules in the future.

Actively exploring the rapidly-growing segment, Lite-On has expanded its client number to four, including Motorola, Nokia and High Tech Computer Corp., so far this year, effectively driving up its shipments of 5- and 8-megapixel camera lens modules.

Although supply of camera lens and sensors has lagged behind demand, Terng noted that his firm has no plan to raise prices of its camera lens module at present, but is ambitiously aiming to squeeze into the world's top-three supplier list in mid-2010, when its monthly shipment is estimated to reach between 18 million and 20 million units.

The firm now ranks as the world's No.5 supplier of this kind along with Hon Hai Group holding the top position.
