2010/08/18 | By Quincy Liang

Taipei, Aug. 18, 2010 (CENS)--Simplo Technology Co., Ltd., a leading notebook PC battery-pack supplier in Taiwan, recently announced lucrative operation results for the second quarter.

The company's chairman and CEO Sun Fu-hsiang said that Simplo registered net earnings of NT$992 million (US$31 million) in the second quarter, up 64.7% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). Though the third-quarter forecast would slide a little bit, Sun claimed that the second-quarter results were much better than expected.

Simplo expects to have revenue of NT$10 billion to NT$10.2 billion (US$312.5 million to US$318.8 million), up 2.53% to 4.58% QoQ and translating into net earnings of NT$867 million to US$884 million (US$27.1 million to US$27.6 million) and earnings per share (EPS) of NT$3.4 to NT$3.47 (US$0.11).

Institutional investors said that Simplo's results for the second quarter met their original expectations. Sun, however, said that the first half saw an "abnormally good" business, but in the second half the overall market is expected to get back to normal or decline.

Simplo is the major battery-pack supplier to Apple's iPad. Sun estimated that global shipments of slate PCs would reach about 40 million units in 2011, up 300% to 400% from 2010. The chairman also added that slate PCs are expected to continue appearing in the global PC market in next three to five years.

Sun stressed that the slate PCs adopt polymer lithium-ion battery packs focusing on module stability. Simplo's leading technology is expected to lead the market, he added.

To venture into the high-potential electric-vehicle (EV) battery market, Simplo has announced its cooperation with China's Potevio Group to set up a battery pack plant , with two production lines scheduled to start trial-production in late 2011.
