"METALEX Vietnam" Part of "METALEX," the largest event in ASEAN, will once again repeat its strong position as Vietnam's most comprehensive machine tool and metalworking trade show, to be held Oct. 7-9, 2010 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC) in Vietnam. The event will attract the biggest range of technologies, 500 global brands from 25 countries, 7,000 buyers and 20 conferences & technology presentations. In addition to offering the most complete exhibit profile, METALEX Vietnam also offers more business opportunities in new markets through its co-location with "Electronics Assembly 2009," the second Vietnam's International Machinery Expo for Electronic Parts and Components Manufacturing. So METALEX Vietnam participants will meet potential customers and business partners from the electronics industry.

Multi-part Support

METALEX Vietnam 2010 has strong support from many official and trade groups, including the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Vietnam Automation Association (VAA), Vietnamese Society of Automotive Engineers (VSAE), Vietnamese Association of Mechanical Industry (VAMI), Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), Vietnam Electro-Technical Industry Association (VELINA), Association of Electronics Industries in Singapore (AEIS), BOI Unit for Industrial Linkage Development (BUILD), Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMA), Taiwan Machinery Industry (TAMI), and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

Ms. Nichapa Yoswee, Managing Director of Reed Tradex Company, Thailand and Vietnam's leading exhibition and conference organizer, says, according to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), the country's economy will be strong this year, and the steel sector will see high growth, with an increase in production value of 9.7% to US$689 million.

The 3-day METALEX Vietnam will be a unique manufacturing community where industrialists can meet, exchange knowledge and ideas, learn from one another, and build world-level business networks. The new technologies, knowledge, ideas, techniques and business networks made available at the event will be key tools that, if applied strategically and consistently with continual development, can enable all participants to advance business and raise profit from rising opportunities in Vietnam.

Thai-entrepreneurial Oriented

As Vietnam is targeted by the Thai government as a trade partner, METALEX Vietnam 2010 is one of the two exhibition channels (another being Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2010 and also organized by Reed Tradex) for BUILD to enable Thai entrepreneurs to enter the Vietnamese industrial market to build business with Vietnamese partners. Moreover, both are the biggest events outside Thailand promoted by BUILD for Thai entrepreneurs. Vietnamese partners will be able to develop opportunities with Thai technology providers to tap not only the Vietnamese market but also the global market.

VSA plans to continue the implementation of key, strategic development projects, to focus on research and analysis, and to strengthen trade promotion, trademark development and the search for new export markets, with the expected governmental support in stimulating the domestic market, maintaining stability for forex rates and offering sufficient foreign currency for the import of raw materials for production. Last year, the steel industry was one of the industrial sectors that achieved high growth with an output increase of 25% and consumption of up to 30% compared to the year before.

Top-15 FDI Friendly

Otherwise, Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency recently announced its prediction for 2010's newly registered and expanded foreign direct investment (FDI) fund at US$22-25 billion, a 10% increase from last year's projection. In addition, the World Investment Prospects Survey 2009-2011 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ranks Vietnam as one of the top-15 most FDI friendly countries. Meanwhile, Piaggio, the world's fourth largest producer of scooters and motorcycles, expects to quickly expand its existing manufacturing facility in Vietnam this year when it recently decided to relocate the group's Asia-Pacific headquarters from Singapore.

Despite the recovering economy globally, Vietnamese industrialists continue to improve themselves. METALEX Vietnam 2010 is a very good opportunity for all Vietnamese businessmen and industrialists to stay updated with knowledge and technology, to stay competitive in light of the current industrial and economic climate in Vietnam.

Mr Chanin Khoachan, Director of BUILD under the Board of Investment of Thailand, said that in the context of the global economic hub gradually moving to Asia, competitiveness and investment in this region is stoked and becoming more comprehensive, especially in the ASEAN region. However, ASEAN economies have not been strong and competitive enough globally. ASEAN countries should share production resources and strengths to integrate into a single regional market.
