Taipei, April 28, 2010 (CENS)--Hon Hai Group, Taiwan's leading manufacturer, has won the bid for building the "Taipei Information Park" on a BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis, announced Hau Lung-bin, Taipei mayor, yesterday (April 27).

Hon Hai won out in the public bidding among the five contestants, thanks to its complete blueprint for the project, as well as the pledge of offering an NT$200 million fund for helping young people establish 3C startups and students to take part in international design contests for IT (information technology) products. It gained the support of 11 members of the 12-member evaluation committee.

Taipei City government will negotiate with "alliance for 3C and multimedia plaza," which represents Hon Hai in the bidding, in 45 days and sign the contract, scheduled in October, before the ground breaking next year. Hon Hai will invest NT$3.7 billion in the project, including NT$1 billion for the franchise, which will last 50 years. Slated for inauguration in 2014, "Taipei Information Park" is projected to rack up NT$6.4 billion in annual revenue and create 1,500 job vacancies.

The "Taipei Information Park" is situated at the crossroads of the Fifth Avenue and Jinshan N. Road, near Guang Hua Computer Center. It is designed to become a major 3C outlet complex, similar to Akihabara in Tokyo.

Hon Hai will build a 12-story green building on the site, which will contain 3C outlets on the first through seven floors, incubation center on the eight through 11 floors, and a garden plaza on the top floor. On one side of the fifth through seven floors will be a large convention center, with three-story height, for holding such events as speeches, 3D movie playing, and major forums.

The project represents another major step of Hon Hai in extending its reach into section of 3C sales channel. Presently, it has established 34 Cybermart outlets in China and plans to set up a Cybermart outlet in Kaohsiung.
