Taipei, Oct. 22, 2009 (CENS)--Two major Taiwanese light-emitting diode (LED) makers' surface-mount device (SMD)-type LEDs recently tapped into the supply chains of the world's top-two LCD TV brands Samsung and LG, according to local Chinese-language economic daily newspaper Economic Daily News (EDN)

The two companies, Lite-On Technology Co., Ltd. and Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. will begin shipping the backlight-use LEDs for mainly 46/47- and 52/55-inch TV panels in the fourth quarter.

Industry sources said that more than 15 million LED-backlit LCD TVs are expected to be shipped by 2010, creating a very big market for local LED-related makers.

At a recent forum on Taiwan's LED industry development and investment opportunities, Rex Wu, Lite-On's general manager, announced that his company will begin shipments of LEDs for the backlight modules of 46/47- and 52/55-inch TV panels in the fourth quarter, without naming customers.

Senior Everlight executives also disclosed that the company would soon begin big-volume shipments of TV backlight LEDs.

Chairman Alfa Wu of AmTRAN Technology, Co. Ltd., a major LCD TV contract maker, also said that his company would raise cooperation with local LED suppliers to bring them into AmTRAN's supply chain by 2010 to develop LED-backlit TVs.
