MTA MALAYSIA 2009, the machinery trade show which took place May 6-10, 2009 at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, proved that venue size isn't everything as the number of visitors was impressive.

The show hosted 900 exhibiting companies from 30 countries and six national group pavilions, which achieved successful business opportunities that reflected the healthy state of manufacturing industries in spite of the downturn. The five-day event drew 17,371 trade visitors across various manufacturing sectors, namely aerospace, automotive, electronics & electrical, machinery and equipment, and mould & die amongst others.

MTA MALAYSIA 2009 and METALTECH 2009, spread across 25,000 square meters, managed to draw major players from the global manufacturing industry, including Munger Machine Tool, Cotel Precision Industries Sdn Bhd, TRUMPF Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Faro Singapore PTE Ltd, CBN Engineering Sdn Bhd, Italpresse Industrie, Luthy Machines, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Thailand) Sdn Bhd, Hitachi via Asia Pte Ltd, KVC Electric (M) Sdn Bhd and Tornos Technologies Asia Ltd.

Six National Pavilions

Six national group pavilions from Austria, China, Germany, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan showcased their latest technologies, machinery and equipment, with an estimated value of RM200 million (about US$57.98M).

Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd (MES), organizer of MTA MALAYSIA 2009, invited Yang Berbahagia Dato' Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir, Deputy Minister of International Trade & Industry, to open the show. Impressed by the considerable visitor traffic, Dato' Mukhriz commented, "Although the floor space at METALTECH 2009 and MTA MALAYSIA2009 is smaller than before, the number of industry visitors is encouraging."

On-the-spot Deals

The success of MTA MALAYSIA2009 was underlined by many reported deals sealed on-the-spot. Gockel, a Germany-based exhibitor sold two units of grinding machines on day one - the G55eIT Precision and Economic Grinding System and the RB3 Universal Circular Knife and Surface Grinding Machine at €130,000 (about US$182,490) each. This is testament to the MTA trade show as an effective platform to do business, as well as for manufacturers to gain maximum exposure of technologies.
