2009/09/24 | By Ben Shen

Taipei, Sept. 24, 2009 (CENS)-The Kinpo Group will diversify into light-emitting diode (LED) indoor-lighting manufacturing and announce such plans this November, which is expected to target the Japanese market, according to group chairman, Rock Hsu.

Hsu said on Sept. 23 that LED indoor lighting and liquid-crystal display (LCD) will become the company's core businesses in the near future due to meet demands for energy-saving lighting.

Hsu added that his company would collaborate with some Japanese companies on LED lighting front. The group's power-supply subsidiary, ACBEL Polytech Inc., is available for its entry into LED lighting business with its profession in electrical circuit deigns, according to industry watchers.

Hsu noted that rising demand to cut carbon-dioxide gas and energy use is sure to generate huge business opportunities, based on an International Energy Agency (IEA) survey of 2010 world market for alternative energies, which forecasts the market at US$625 billion.

In LCD business, the company has recently acquired a 70% holding of an NT$10 billion (US$303 million at US$1:NT$33) private placement offered by LCD-panel maker Chunghwa Picture Tube Co., Ltd. The acquisition will secure the group's laptop operation a steady supply source of LCD panels. In addition, the group's LCD subsidiary Toppoly Optoelectronics Corp. has acquired Philips' unit specializing in medium- and small-size LCD panels, forming a synergy complement to Chunghwa.
