2009 Taiwan Trade Fair in Nanjing Opens Today

Taipei, Sept. 17, 2009 (CENS)--Organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the 2009 Taiwan Trade Fair in Nanjing opens today for a four-day run at the Nanjing International Expo Centre, with 750 exhibitors displaying more than 20,000 products at a total of 1,900 booths to an estimated attendance of 5,000 buyers.

C. K. Wang, chairman of TAITRA, said this is the largest-scale fair that TAITRA has ever organized in China and would largely promote Taiwan's products to the huge market in China.

Of the exhibitors, 638 come from Taiwan and 112 are Taiwanese enterprises in China. Among them are many renowned Taiwanese enterprises including Uni-President Group, Teco Group, Want Want Group, Taiwan Sakura Corp., Franz Collection Inc., Giant Mfg. Co., Ltd., Liuligongfang, etc.

Significant Chinese buyers that have signed up to attend the show include Wal-Mart China, Beijing's Hulian Group's supermarket chain, Jiangsu Suguo Supermarket, Nanjing ShaXilu Department Store, Wuhan's Zhongbai Group, Yihua Department Store, Hanzhou's HuaShang Group, and so on.

The exhibition site of the fair is divided into 10 areas:

--3C area: consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, communications-related products;

--Furniture, gifts and stationery area: furniture, household and home items, gifts, toys, jewelry & watches, stationery, and gardening tools;

--Fashion and cosmetics area: garments, shoes, handbags, accessories, and cosmetics;

--Sports and leisure goods area: sporting goods, fitness equipment, bicycles and spare parts;

--Creative cultural products area: fine arts, creative designs, and handicraft items;

--Food products area: processed food, beverages, health food, and frozen food;

--Energy-saving products area: energy-saving products, eco-friendly items, and related technology & equipment.

In addition to Taiwan image area, chain store area, and medical care service & tourism area.

Originally the four-day event was expected to attract 2,000 buyers, who were estimated to make about US$150 million worth of purchases, but now the number of buyers is seen to balloon to 5,000, so the purchasing value is expected to multiply.

Wang disclosed that this trade fair in Nanjing would play a bellwether role and TAITRA would organize similar fairs in other large cities in China in the future.
