Taipei, Aug. 24, 2009 (CENS)--With positive factors, including a recovering global economy and popularity of LED (light emitting diode)-backlit LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs and notebook PCs, Taiwanese backlight module suppliers enjoyed solid sales and profit performance in the second quarter of this year, offsetting their business declines in the first quarter due to a global downturn.

Coretronic Corp., for instance, scored net profits of NT$570 million (US$17.272 million at US$1: NT$33), or NT$0.76 (US$0.023) per share, in the second quarter of the year, shooting up 300% from the first quarter, effectively pushing up its aggregate EPS (earnings per share) to NT$1.12 (US$0.0339) for the first half of the year as the most profitable company in the line on the island.

The company projects its annual shipment of backlight modules for notebook PCs and for LCD monitors to hit over 21 million units and 35 million units, respectively, to command a 17% and a 20% share of the global market this year. Besides, with globally leading LCD TV brands, such as Samsung and LG, actively promoting LED-backlit modules worldwide, the company is expected to ship 12 million units of modules for LED-backlit LCD TVs and command a 10% global market share in the year.

In the meantime, Radiant Opto-electronics Corp. also posted shining sales revenue of NT$9.259 billion (US$280.57 million) for the second quarter, adding to its aggregate revenue for the first half of the year to NT$16.54 billion (US$501.21 million). The firm reported pretax profits of NT$493 million (US$14.939 million) and net profits of NT$330 million (US$10 million), or NT$0.8 (US$0.0242) per share, for the first half.

Seeing a market boom simmer into the second half of the year, Radiant Opto-electronics scored combined revenue of NT$3.541 billion (US$107.3 million) in July, up 9.29% from June and 21% from a year earlier and hitting a record single-month high, and recorded aggregate combined revenue of N$20.046 billion (US$607.45 million) for the first seven months of the year, slightly down 4.73% from a year earlier.
