MediaTek Projects Revenue to Pick Up Steadily

2009/05/25 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, May 25, 2009 (CENS)--MediaTek Inc., currently Taiwan's No.1 fabless house by revenue, recently projected its revenue for current quarter to rise 6-15% from last quarter's NT$23.9 billion (US$724 million at US$1:NT$33) and its shipments for current quarter to soar at least a quarter from last quarter, to 90 million sets of chips.

The company announced its April consolidated revenue was NT$9.7 billion (US$296.6 million), next only to the highest of NT$9.8 billion (US$296.9 million) it set in September last year. The April revenue inched up 2.04% from a month earlier and rise 17.47% from the same month last year.

The company's executives ascribed the healthy April revenue increase mostly to its burgeoning exports of handset chips to mainland China, where they said inventories were still at moderate levels.

Although industry watchers expected the company to see revenue for current month slip from last month, the slide pace will be at only single digit, well shoring up the revenue number at NT$9 billion (US$272 million) benchmark.

Anticipating the company's deployment efforts in the mainland's 3G market will return it with hefty results in the second half of this year, many foreign institutional investors have recently increased holding of the company's shares in a big way.
