Taipei, April 3, 2009 (CENS)--Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. (KYMCO), the largest powered two-wheeler (PTW) manufacturer in Taiwan, recently debuted its latest 100cc electronic fuel-injection (EFI), the Many 100EFI scooter, at the 36th Tokyo Motorcycle Show (March 27-29) in Japan.

Industry sources said that Japan is the leading PTW R&D and production nation globally but its market is tough to tap for foreign players without very competitive products.

They pointed out that KYMCO intentionally chose the Tokyo Motorcycle Show to debut its new models to test the waters for acceptance as well as try to create buzz that might help the new model's demonstration in Taiwan and the global market.

The Many 100-EFI is priced at 180,000 yen, about 10,000 yen higher than same-class counterparts but is equipped with the more advanced fuel-injection engine that can generate more horse power and cleaner emissions.

With the new scooter, KYMCO hopes its exports to Japan to grow by 60% in this year to reach about 5,000 units, as well as anticipating the new product to be popular in Taiwan.

Industry sources said that the Taiwan government put the world's most stringent PTW-emission standard, the fifth-stage one, into effect on the first day of 2009, forcing all brands on the island to promote only models with EFI engines for sales on the island.

The sources also added that light scooters with EFI engines are expected to further upgrade Taiwan's status as a major export base of high-level scooters with engine displacement under 150cc.
