2009/03/19 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, March 19, 2009 (CENS)--Qisda Corp., a consumer-electronics subsidiary of the BenQ Group, has begun developing a strong presence in the market for upscale LED lighting products and won the renowned Red Dot Award of Germany, according to the company's president and chief executive, Hsiung Huei.

Hsiung said his company would begin to ship the lamps in the third quarter at the earliest to upscale restaurants and hotels, generating lucrative profits.

The top Qisda executive noted the company's LED lamps were awarded the Red Dot for their unique looks and functions. He went on that the company develops designs and innovative ideas on its own and plans to work as contract supplier of European, American and Japanese brand-name suppliers of upscale lighting products.

Hsiung said his company began branching out into LED-lighting last year and would see results soon. He added his company owns several advantages in LED-lighting manufacturing over its rivals, with the group's LED chipmaker Lextar Electronics Corp. being one edge.

The company made NT$270 million (US$7.9 million at US$1:NT$34) last quarter alone, topping market expectations. However, Hsiung expected earnings for this quarter to slide from last quarter's. Currently, liquid-crystal display (LCD) monitors remain the company's major revenue earner, accounting for 71% of the company's revenue last quarter. LCD TV constituted 12%.
