2008/11/14 | By Apple Ding

The 22nd China International Furniture Fair (Guangzhou) was held in the Pazhou Complex of the China Import and Export Fair on Sept. 8-11, 2008, alongside Homedecor & Housewares China and China (Guangzhou) International Trade Fair for Home Textile. The shows highlighted products designed to facilitate a high-class lifestyle.

The furniture fair, the timing of which was moved up to September for the first time, exhibited both modern and classical products. It featured displays by some 700 foreign and local furniture firms, which occupied 130,000 square meters of exhibition space. The fair attracted a record of more than 7,000 advance-registration visitors, an increase of 60%.

Following are brief descriptions of some key exhibitors:

Kinwai Furniture Decoration Co.

Kinway Furniture Decoration is a multinational firm, headquartered in San Francisco, which has subsidiaries in China and Europe. It moved into China in 1993, setting up a production base in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province; it has invested US$50 million in this facility so far, installing cutting-edge equipment from Germany, the U.S., and Italy. In addition, the company has set up two subsidiary firms in Jiangmen, one responsible for marketing Kinwai's products in Asia, the U.S., Europe, and Australia, and the other for marketing in China. Yet another company has been established to handle retailing in the Chinese market.

In 2007 the company embarked on a major expansion project to boost the space of the Jiangmen production base to half a million square meters, up from 330,000 now, making it one of the foremost furniture production sites not only in China but also the world.

Kinwai focuses on high-end modern American furniture made of cherry, teak, and oak: residential furniture, office furniture, and sofas. The products are created by designers and engineers around the world who combine art and science, along with the "human-oriented" concept and the essence of Chinese culture—features which won the company the honor of being listed among "China's top brands."

The company's production base employs a workforce of 1,000 and turns out avant-garde living-room and dining-room furniture sets, sofas, end tables, knock/down wall cabinets, TV cabinets, leisure chairs, bar stools, cabinets, and wine cabinets. The furniture is exported to markets including Japan, Germany, the U.S., and Australia.

Leyaxuan Furniture Co.

Founded in 1992, the Leyaxuan's 40,000-square-meter production base is situated in Shunde, in Guangdong Province's Foshan City. It offers a complete product lineup including solid-wood and panel furniture in four categories: fashion, modern, Chinese-style neo-classical, and Europe-style neo-classical.

Landbond Furniture Co.

Founded in 1984, Landbond is headquartered in Nanhai City of Guangdong Province and turns out residential furniture, hotel furniture, and office swivel chairs. It has more than 10 domestic and overseas subsidiaries, with total employment exceeding 4,800. It has also been granted the honor of listing among "China's top brands."

Red Apple Furniture Co.

Red Apple turns out high-end panel furniture, beds, and sofas using cutting-edge production equipment from Germany, Italy, the U.S., and Switzerland. All materials must undergo strict inspection at the company's testing center to ensure the absence of hazardous ingredients, notably formaldehyde, as well as inspection by a local college laboratory on an irregular basis. In addition, the National Test Center of Product Quality Supervision carries out spot-checks of the company's products to ensure their quality.
