South Taiwan Automotive R&D Alliance to be Set Up

Taipei, Sept. 22, 2008 (CENS)--Following the formation of the South Taiwan Textile R&D Alliance, another team will be set up in Tainan County Sept. 29 to help strengthen the automotive sector on the island, namely the South Taiwan Automotive R&D Alliance.

Chen Liang, chairman of the preparatory office, noted the new alliance will concentrate on developing auto lamps, engines, mechanical hardware, braking systems, 3D circuits and green composite materials.

Chen said Tainan County is the center for developing and producing automotive and motorcycle parts in Taiwan. He will try to build the new alliance into a legal entity or corporate body, which can unite the capacities of relevant car and motorcycle manufacturers in Taiwan to tap business and other opportunities.

Once having secured legal entity status, the new alliance will apply for official subsidies to help boost development and production at local manufacturers.

The alliance will consist of seven subgroups, including auto lamp led by Long Feng Enterprise Co., rear mirror led by Chih Wen Industrial Co., engine led by Jieh Chueng Industrial Co., mechanical hardware led by Macauto Industrial Co., automotive braking system led by Leta Industrial Co., three-dimensional circuit led by Hua Hung Technology Inc., and green composite material led by Ting Cheng Enterprise Co.

Chen said the member companies of the new alliance would take up 25% of the venue at the Taipei International Auto Parts & Accessories Show held annually at the Taipei
