Harvatek is No. 2 Taiwanese LED Maker in EPS for 1st Half 2008

2008/08/06 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, August 6, 2008 (CENS)--With increasing sales of its LED (light emitting diode) applications for notebook PCs, Harvatek Inc., a Taiwanese supplier of SMT (surface mount technology) chip LEDs, scored net profits of NT$0.9 per share for the first half of this year to be the No.2 supplier of this kind on the island, according to company sources.

Besides, thanks to returning orders from generic brands of mobile phones, Harvatek posted July revenue of about NT$250 million, sharply up 25% from a month earlier. The company is even expected to see a double-digit growth in its third-quarter revenue, due partly to a seasonal boom and partly to growing orders for its LEDs used in notebook PCs.

In fact, Harvatek has recently tried to shift its focus to sales of LEDs applied in notebook PCs from models for mobile phones, and thus landed quite a few orders for blue and white LEDs used in keyboards of notebook PCs. At the moment, the company's sales of this kind contribute 10% to the total, and are expected to further surge in the third quarter.

An LED keyboard is an increasingly popular application for LED for notebook PCs, and has been widely adopted by large American PC brands as Apple, Dell and HP. The product will most likely be the main driver of growth for Harvatek's business operations in the future.

Harvatek posted net profits of NT$0.58 per share and a gross profit rate of 29% in the first quarter of this year, and the company optimistically projects its second-quarter gross profit rate to be maintained at over 20%.
