HTC Smartphones Top N.A. Telecoms’ Best-sellers List in June

2011/07/15 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, July 15, 2011 (CENS)--The top-four telecom companies in North America, namely AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, published best-selling handset rankings for June, with several smartphones from Taiwan’s HTC Corp. squeezing into or topping the lists.

Clearly the iPhone 4 has been the blockbuster in North America’s handset market, which topped the best-selling handset list issued by Verizon, the largest telecom in North America for the fifth consecutive month in June, with Samsung’s Droid Charge 4G and HTC’s ThunderBolt 4G ranking No.2 and No.3, respectively on the same list.

Meanwhile, Sprint’s best-selling handset list for the same month shows HTC’s EVO 3D and EVO 4G taking the top-two spots and Samsung’s Epic 4G the third, while T-Mobile saw HTC Sensation smartphone beat Samsung Vibrant 4G and HTC myTouch 4G as the best-seller in the handset sales ranking. To some degree, the sales findings indicate HTC’s smartphones are popular with local consumers, though the two telecoms didn’t include the iPhone to their product category in the month.

While HTC has gradually consolidated its foothold in North America, Samsung, however, has caught up with HTC recently despite later entry into the segment, with some market observers believing the Korean brand may threaten Apple in the future.

Fueled by the launch of iPhone 4G, global sales of Apple’s iPhone is expected to increase to 77.3 million units this year and over 100 million units next year, compared to 50 million smartphone models HTC aims to sell in 2011.
