Wintek Expanding Touch Panel Output

2010/12/23 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Dec. 23, 2010 (CENS)--To firmly capture business opportunities brought by tablet PC booms, Wintek Corp., a Taiwanese touch panel maker, has been actively expanding its output of 10-inch models, in an attempt to square off against its Taiwanese counterpart TPK Holdings Co., Ltd.

Winteck has spent NT$12 billion raising its output of touch panels over the past year and such effort has paid off presently, said the chairman Hyley Huang. He indicated that his firm has achieved a monthly output of 2 million 10-inch touch panels in December 2010, and will further push up the figure to 3 million units in January 2011, and 5.2 million units next June, when another output expansion is completed at its Taichung fabrication plant.

So far, Huang mentioned, Wintek has sent its touch panels used in tablet PCs to international large-sized PCs vendors, including Asus, Acer and Dell, for certification. He is very optimistic about the market prospects in 2011, as the global market for tablet PCs is expected to explosively grow along with more PC vendors launching their models in the year.

Benefiting from touch panel booms, the firm raked in sales revenue of NT$8.855 billion in November, up 7.63% year on year to hit a record high. Institutional investors have projected the firm's full-year revenue for 2010 at NT$66.3 billion, including NT$26.5 billion to be scored in the fourth quarter of the year.

In the meantime, Wintek, dedicated to production of OLED (organic light emitting diode)-incorporated display panels, plans to switch part of existing production lines for TFT-LCD panels to the products, while outsourcing from HannStar Display Corp., Huang confirmed. He added that Wintek is going to start installing manufacturing equipment for OLED panels in the first quarter of 2011, and kick off mass production by the end of the year, which will hopefully serve as another grow drive in the firm's business operations in the coming four to five years.
