Top-20 Global Brands in Taiwan Worth More Than US$9 B.

2008/09/29 | By Judy Li

Taipei, Sept. 29, 2008 (CENS)--The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will officially unveil Taiwan’s top-20 international brands Sept. 30, which bear an estimated production value of US$9.141 billion, breaking the US$9 billion level the first time; and of which US$7.537 billion is generated by the top-10 brands.

The top-20-brand honors will go to Acer, Advantech, Asus, Biostar, Danze, D-Link, Depo, Genius, Giant, HTC, Johnson, Leadtek, MasterKong, Maxxis, Merida, MSI, Synnex, Transcend, TrendMicro, Uni-President, and Zyxel. Most of them are high-tech or information technology (IT) firms, except Danze, Depo, Giant, Johnson, MasterKong, Maxxis, Merida, and Uni-President.

Danze is the famous maker of Globe Union branded bathroom fixtures; Depo an auto lamp brand; and Maxxis a tire brand under Cheng Hsin Rubber Inc. Johnson Health Tech Co. is a world-renowned maker of Johnson-branded fitness equipment. Giant and Merida are virtually household names in Taiwan and abroad for bicycles, while Masterkong and Uni-President are widely-popular instant noodle brands.

For 2008 Biostar, Danze, Leadtek and MSI made it into the top-20 club the first time. TAITRA reportedly cooperates with Interbrand, a U.K.-based branding consultant, to organize the yearly event, which has been gaining increasing attention in recent years, hence drawing increasingly more Taiwan manufacturers to vie for the coveted title.
