Taipei, Nov. 4, 2005 (CENS)--The 2005 Taipei International Show for Medical Equipment, Pharmaceuticals and Bio-technology (Mediphar Taipei 2005), one of the largest medical trade shows in Asia, is scheduled to be held from Nov. 10 to 13 at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) Exhibition Hall.

According to the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the show's organizers, 272 exhibitors occupying 586 booths had registered for the annual event as of Oct. 24. The Formosan Medical Association (FMA) is the other organizer of the show, which is entering its 17th year.

Adjacent to this four-day event, the Formosan Medical Association Annual Conference will be held at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), TAITRA said. The event is expected to bring the medical industry's top decision-makers together, and noted scholars will host nearly 50 meetings and seminars at the conference.

The star products of last year's show were dental equipment and appliances, air mattresses that prevent bed sores, pain relieving hydrogels, air filtering masks, massage chairs with spine adjustments, rotary shower heads that turn 360 degrees, non-invasive oximeters and other personalized health-test systems, bio-energy daily healthcare products, and anti-bacterial products.

To satisfy the needs of both exhibitors and buyers, Mediphar Taipei 2005 has expanded its show area from two to three halls (A, C, and D) at the TWTC Exhibition Center, and has also arranged its products into the nine categories of medical equipment. The categories include instruments and hospital supplies, biotech products, health care products and rehabilitation products, pharmaceutical products, export products, medical computers and medical publications, the media, overseas exhibitors, and a beauty-care and anti-aging medical product exhibition area.

To strengthen services for buyers, TAITRA said that it would offer a free buyers' lounge and a wireless business center. The first two days of the show, Nov. 10 and 11, will be restricted to business and trade customers only, while the center will be open to the general public free of charge during its last two days,

According to customs statistics, exports of Taiwan's medical equipment in 2004 totaled NT$27.6 billion (US$823.88 million), while imports came to NT$37 billion (US$1.1 billion). Taiwan's edge in the medical industry is partly due to the contributions of the island's outstanding information technology (IT) industry, TAITRA said.
