Sun Firm Shines in Precision Lathe Market

Sun Firm Machinery Ind. Co., Ltd., established in 1992, specializes in the production of high-quality computerized numerically controlled (CNC) lathes, high-speed lathes, heavy-duty lathes, and super-large lathes.

Sun has earned a good reputation for its strong and durable machine structures. The X-axis and Y- axis of the company's lathes are supported by precision ballscrews and mounted on 60-degree high-precision bearings.

Integrated machine bodies and electric-control systems contribute to the convenient operation and easy maintenance of Sun's machines. Spindle speed is controlled automatically by a hydraulic system, and a four-speed power drive ensures full horsepower output even at low spindle speed.

Produced at a 6,000-square-meter plant in central Taiwan, Sun's CNC lathes feature large spindle bore supported by three-point precision bearings, making these units suitable for jobs requiring heavy-cutting and accurate machining. At present, the company can roll out eight to 10 CNC lathes and large-sized precision lathes, per month. Unit prices of the company's products range from US$80,000 to US$160,000.

The company's CNC lathes have a one-piece box-type machine base made of Meehanite castings. All bedways are hardened and ground to provide high rigidity and durability. Cross slideways are also induction-hardened and coated with turcite-B.

All gears are made of chrome-molybdenum steel and precision ground to reduce operating noise. A special coolant system for the headstock keeps spindle temperature low.

After acquiring the then 43-year-old San Shing Industrial Co., Ltd., one of Taiwan's most professional manufacturers of machine tools, Sun has become a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty CNC lathes and high-speed lathes. It is the only manufacturer in Taiwan that can offer made-to-order services for large CNC lathes.

Sun also supplies a full range of high-speed precision lathes with 560mm to 2,000mm swing-over beds, one to 10 meters between centers, and spindle bore of three inches to 21 inches. It also produces large CNC lathes for the pipe-processing industry.

The company will show off its latest product line at the 2005 Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) slated for March 15-20 at the Taipei World Trade Center.
