Established nearly three decades ago, Buffalo Machinery Co., Ltd. Supplies high-end computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to customers around the world.

Over the past decade, the company has extended its product line from CNC boring machines to CNC lathes and machining centers. Around 90% of the company's output is marketed under the "Microcut" brand, with the remainder sold on original equipment/design manufacturing terms.

The company currently runs three plants in Taichung county, central Taiwan. It is now building a fourth plant, with completion scheduled in the first half of 2005. With a workforce of 110 people, the company generates US$40 million in sales per year.

Buffalo regularly introduces new models. In the second half of last year, the company launched its Challenger-series of CNC lathes and machining centers. The new series has proven to be a hit among U.S. and European buyers.

Company president Paul Chang says his company is now developing other advanced CNC machine tools, such as bridge-type vertical-machining centers, slant-bed CNC lathes, and vertical-machining centers with linear guideways.

The slant-bed CNC lathe is a complex machine featuring more than two axes to facilitate sophisticated machining job. The linear guideway-equipped vertical machining center is designed to handle high-speed machining jobs and will be first showcased at the Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) from March 15 to 20.

In addition to the Taipei show, Buffalo will also take part in machine shows in Vietnam and Singapore in the first half of this year. In September the company will participate in the EMO show in Hannover, Germany.
