Specialty chemicals are technology-intensive and high value-added chemical products and boast such characteristics as special function, small production volume, and large variety in product items. It is one of the 10 newly emerging industries in Taiwan.
Special chemicals are now widely applied to many industries, including electronics, machinery, biotech, agriculture, foodstuff, and automobile.
In 2005, Taiwan's total production value of specialty chemicals came to NT$149.7 billion, representing a slight growth of 2.0% from 2004. Specialty chemicals for electronics posted the largest annual production growth of 15% as a result of the growing application to liquid crystal display (LCD), followed by a growth of 8% for cosmetics, and a slight increase in plastics additives, among others. |
