The Economic Roundup is an excerpted translation of the Chinese-language ROC Economic Yearbook published by the Economic Daily News, a sister publication of the Taiwan Economic News. The yearbook is the most comprehensive and authoritative source for understanding the fundamentals of Taiwan's economy, both in the macro and micro aspects. The excerpted translation gives foreign readers a concise view of the island's overall economic picture. It is divided into four parts: general economy, primary industries, secondary industries, and tertiary industries.

Secondary Industries > Woven Textile Industry
Cloth weaving has long taken a pivotal position in the textile industry due to its linking with the upstream filament processing and cotton spinning and the downstream dyeing and garment making sectors. Official statistics show that polyester and nylon woven cloths have in recent years registered the fastest growth in terms of production and exports, and Taiwan's polyester filament yarn and polyester textured yarn respectively take the first and second position, respectively, in the world market. Moreover, the development of long fiber cloth and the breakthrough in dyeing technique have helped Taiwan-made long-fiber products play an important role in the global market. Long-fiber cloths include polyester long-fiber woven cloth, textured nylon woven cloth and knitted woven cloth. Polyester long-fiber woven cloth, in particular, boasts strong competitiveness in the world market due mainly to high upstream filament processing quality, foremost weaving technology and the employment of advanced weaving machines, among others.
