Taipei, Aug. 3, 2005 (CENS)--Taiwan's Behavior Tech Computer Corp. (BTC) recently launched a 16X digital versatile disc (DVD) burner model at a unit price of only 399 Renminbi (RMB) in mainland China, about 12% cheaper than similar counterparts made by other Taiwan brands.

With a strategic alliance set up last year with Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co. Ltd., the world's largest maker of barebone PCs, connectors and game consoles, BTC started farming out production of all of its optical-disc drives to Hon Hai. BTC then turned to focus on developing global sales channels.

With the close cooperation between BTC and Hon Hai's R&D staff, Hon Hai began mass production of DVD burner drives in the first quarter and became increasingly familiar with the new business.

Industry sources said that Hon Hai's entry into the optical-disc drive line is expected to further strengthen BTC's cost competitiveness and pose threats to other local makers in the line, including Lite-On IT Corp. and BenQ Corp.
