On Nov. 29 last year, Taiwan's Tung Yu Hydraulic Machinery Co., Ltd. One of Asia's leading manufacturers of hydraulic forming machines, struck a technical cooperation deal with R.E.P. Corp. of France. The agreement is expected to enhance international competitiveness for both sides.

Under the terms of the deal, both sides agreed to collaboratively develop new-generation rubber injection molding machines, and R.E.P. has become Tung Yu's exclusive sales agent in Europe and the U.S. To promote its global sales, Tung Yu will produce V-shaped injection molding machines exclusively for R.E.P.

Headquartered in Lyons, France, R.E.P. was founded in 1907 and has grown to be the world's leading manufacturer of injection molding machines. With a work force of 400 worldwide, the company has branched out into the U.S., Germany, Italy, U.K., Brazil, and mainland China. With annual sales amounting to US$87 million last year, the company has 30 sales agents around the world.

R.E.P. began the development and production of rubber injection molding machines in 1961. The company is currently capable of producing vertical and horizontal rubber injection molding machines and related injection equipment. R.E.P.'s machines are widely used in the automotive, electrical, and many other manufacturing industries. Its products feature a clamping force of 25 to 3,000 tons.

Founded in 1983 by Yang Chen-pin, Tung Yu is a professional designer and manufacturer of rubber hydraulic forming machines. Tung Yu specializes in the production of vacuum forming and injection molding models.

The ISO 9001 and CE certified company says it is capable of producing a wide range of hydraulic forming machines with clamping forces of five up to 10,000 tons. The company boasts its products are widely used in the production of oil seals for automobiles. Tung Yu also produces shock-absorbing rubber, medical cords, and automobile accessories.

Tung Yu sales manager Yang Chen-pin notes his company has sold products to many internationally renowned manufacturers of rubber products in Japan, Germany, the U.S., mainland China, and Southeast Asian nations. Yang says 95% of Taiwan's oil-seal producers have adopted compression machines made by his company.

With a work force of 250, Tung Yu saw overall sales reach US$30 million last year, an increase of 60% from 2003. The company predicts it will continue to see substantial growth in sales to mainland China in the coming years, primarily due to the launch of its manufacturing facility in Ningbo of Zhejiang Province there in 2002.
