Ecpal Vehicle Co., Ltd. Is a young and expanding company set up two years ago as a spin-off of the R&D department of Carstar, the biggest automotive-repair-information and technical training company in Taiwan. Ecpal was established to supply the global automotive repair- and diagnostic-tool market.

Ecpal specializes in developing innovative automotive repair and assistance tools. The company aims to provide customers worldwide with the most functional tools for checking and diagnosing problems in a rapid, convenient, accurate, and efficient way.

Ecpal recently demonstrated two new product series, the VAT-200 Noise Master and the VAT-500 Ignition Expert. The former is specially designed for checking car noises and combines several sensors in order to check the different materials used in car construction. The latter is designed to diagnose defects in a gasoline engine's ignition system accurately and rapidly.

The VAT-200 contains a main unit and different types of sensors, including magnetic, handheld, sucker and clipping sensors. When the main unit's power is turned on, the built-in indicator lights with green, yellow and red colors, which change according to detected volumes (a low volume yields a green light, while high levels result in red). The equipment uses four channels to check different locations' noise sources. The operator can adjust the sensitivity of the noise indicator to increase or decrease noise-sensing range. When the required reception channel is chosen, the noise is passed on by earphone.

According to Ecpal, a gasoline-powered engine's ignition system is quite complicated and contains an ignition coil, high-voltage cables, spark plugs, distributors, and an ignition amplifier. The coil produces the high voltage power required by spark plugs and is the most difficult part to diagnose. The VAT-500 was developed to check the whole ignition system effectively and can help find the locations of decayed or broken ignition parts, as well as power leaks.

The VAT-500's contacting control can be adjusted from slow to fast, as demanded, and has a frequency of 180-12000 RPM. The VAT-500 automatically distinguishes between different ignition coils and auto-switches its method of contact.

Crucially, the VAT-500 is also designed to enhance operator safety and security and has built-in protection circuits to withstand operations under high voltages.
