Koan Cho Machinery Co., Ltd., a veteran Taiwan manufacturer of lathes, was founded in 1976 in Taichung City, central Taiwan. With decades of development experience in the machine-tool industry, the company has extended its product lines to include machining centers, electric-discharge machines, and milling machines.

To meet the demand of the world's machine-tool industry, the company is making all-out efforts to develop computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools with self-developed manufacturing technologies.

The company boasts it has a strong research and development unit developing the cutting-edge technologies incorporated in its high-quality models. Over the past several years, the company has concentrated on machines with rigid construction to ensure superior durability and high machining accuracy.

"Since our establishment, our primary focus has been on R&D work, the result being production of high-added-value products," says Mentor Lin, general manager of the company. "In this way, we have won a solid reputation in the domestic and overseas market. In recent years, we have seen our overseas sales increase at a high rate."

Lin says his company began producing CNC machine tools in 1993 because of its long-term efforts to develop sophisticated manufacturing technologies by adopting state-of-the-art production equipment. At that time, only a few domestic manufacturers could produce CNC machine tools in large volume.

The company has at all times sought to offer machines of above-standard quality at affordable prices, believing that only models sold at reasonable prices can help customers enjoy adequate operating profits and thus help the overall industry prosper.

Recently the company announced that it has successfully developed a CNC vertical milling center that occupies only a small area. The machine comes in six models with the machine table ranging from 355x760mm to 810x2180mm. X-Y-Z travel axes range from 560x410x450mm to 2000x800x700mm.

"Taiwan is experiencing fundamental industrial transformation, and it is crucially important to upgrade to more sophisticated manufacturing technologies to survive the intense competition in the international machine-tool market," Lin says.
