Lien Chieh Presses Into Global Markets

Established in 1947, Lien Chieh Machinery Co. is a veteran machinery manufacturer specializing in the production of various kinds of hydraulic presses. In its first two decades the company was called Lien Chieh Casting Works; in 1967 it was renamed Lien Chieh Casting Machine Co. Under it new moniker, the company focused on the manufacture of cold and hot presses, lifters, and log chargers, mainly for plywood.

In 1973, Lien Chieh began developing heavy- duty deep drawing presses weighing 500 to 800 tons for the automobile industry. Three years later, it debuted a multi-layer laminating press for electronic circuits.

In 1990 the company was given its current name, Lien Chieh Machinery Co., and in the same year established a plant in Yangmei, northern Taiwan, with an area of 50,000 square meters. In 1992, the company sold its first 2,000-ton hydraulic forging and deep-drawing press model to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan, and a year later exported a 3,000-ton hydraulic hot forging press to Kobe Steel Ltd.

To keep abreast of world trends, Lien Chieh has spared no efforts in R&D and the obtaining of international-standard certifications. In 1996 the company earned the CE Mark for its 1,500-ton hydraulic deep drawing press, and in 1997 it was ISO-9002 certified.

Today the company's major products include metal forming presses, hot/cold forging presses, PCB/CCL laminating hot presses, plywood presses, mechanical presses, and SMC presses. In addition to Taiwan, these machines have been sold to Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
