Taipei, March 10, 2004 (CENS)--The 2004 Taipei International Cycle Show (Taipei Cycle '04) kicked off today for a four-day run at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), with all major complete bike, parts and relevant makers in Taiwan participating in the annual event to show their latest products.

The organizers, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters' Association (TBEA), reported that the show has attracted 582 exhibitors from all over the world to exhibit their latest products and technologies at a total of 1,828 booths.

Giant Manufacturing Co., Ltd., maker of the Giant-branded bikes, posted a major show theme of "Sharing the joy of the ride" and demonstrated a series of bike products that match different riding requirements of various ages.

Merida Industry Co., Ltd., another leading bike brand in Taiwan, displayed its new-generation fiber-glass frame, LRS system (low ratio suspension), and magnesium-alloy frame bike models.

At the show opening ceremony, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) granted awards to 20 local bike parts makers for their innovative and new products and gave cash awards to winners in the bicycle design contest.

At the show, Giant's booths demonstrated full series of baby trolleys, children tricycles, racing bikes, down-hill bikes and electric bikes to meet the various requirements of riders.

Giant also debuted the "Generation E" bike series for parent-children riders, the Stilletto series for youngsters, the Revive comfort bikes for high-level consumers, and the electric Revive models, the Revive-e electric bikes.

Giant said that it just signed a sponsorship agreement with T-Mobile road-bike racing team, one of the world's strongest racing bike teams, to provide TCR graphite-frame racing bikes. The TCR top-end bikes were ridden to victory in the 2002 Tour De France by the Spanish ONCE team.

Merida claimed that its magnesium-alloy bikes own shock-absorb capability unmatched by other materials, and such models integrate speed, excellent shock-absorption and comfort into one.

Merida also displayed its latest Therorema series bikes, which feature highest frame strength with new-type frame connectors. The company also claimed that its LRS bikes with patented suspension system designs boast the most advanced and damping functions in the world.
