Taipei, April 21, 2004 (CENS)-- A 60-memberTaiwan trade delegation, organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), is visiting India to tap the emerging market in South Asia.

The delegation, arriving at New Delhi early this week, already visited ranking economics and financial officials in the country and also held a series of trade talks with local enterprises.

The Indian government reportedly promised to enhance not only trade relationship with Taiwan, but also boost the official level of future industrial and commercial conferences between the two sides. And it hoped the government in Taiwan to encourage more manufacturers to launch investments there as well.

In response to the rising number of passengers to India, China Airlines is expected to increase its weekly flights to India to five or even seven from the current three. Today China Airlines offers one flight from Taipei to New Delhi on three odd weekdays, and vice versa on three even weekdays.

Of the delegation members, most are small- and medium-sized enterprises and this is the first trip to India for half of them. During the visit, they found many Indian enterprises and buyers were quite interested in Taiwan-made products and some showed strong intention to cooperate with their Taiwan counterparts. The trade talk sites were crowded with interested people, making the delegation members very happy.

Also a member of the delegation, the Taiwan Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) has reached an agreement with its sister association of electric parts makers in India to further promote exchanges of industrial information and trade visits. TEEMA promised to lead a trade delegation to assess investment environment there in the second half of this year.
