TAITRA, TEEMA to hold Taiwan's first auto-Electronics summit forum in October

The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) has decided to hold aninternational auto-electronics summit forum and a series of curement seminars during the Taipei International Electronics Autumn Show (Taitronics Autumn 2005) slated for October 11-15 at the Taipei World Trade Center.

TAITRA claimed many ranking officials of big international companies, including Motorola, BMW, Volkswagen (VW), and many other big electronic companies, have promised to participate in the forum.

TAITRA also plans to invite representatives of different international auto makers and tier-one auto-parts suppliers to the forum, including GM, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, TATA (of India), Delphi, Johnson Controls, Bosch, Siemens VDO, Matsushita, Denso etc.

In order to further promote the development of island's auto-electronic line, TAITRA will set up a "Cartronics" pavilion at the Taitronics Autumn 2005.TAITRA has mapped out major themes for the summit forum, with discussions expected to focus on the development of strategic alliances between big international players and Taiwan contract suppliers.

According to TAITRA, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) and TAITRA will co-organize the auto-electronic summit forum and invite major information technology (IT) and electronic makers such as Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co. Ltd. (the world's largest maker of barebone PCs, connectors, game consoles etc.) and Compal Electronics Inc. (leading notebook PC maker). The form is expected to attract A total of 350 participants from over 60 nations.

TAITRA pointed out that the increasing electronic and information applications on automobiles are creating big business opportunities for many related makers, including IT products, global positioning system (GPS) navigation devices, integrated multimedia systems, liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, broadband communications, connectors, ECU (electro-control unit) systems etc. The council added that some local automakers once suggested big IT and electronic conglomerates acquire existing auto-parts makers for effective entry into the line.

The auto-electronic business outlook is very bright, attracting such major local companies as Hon Hai, VIA Technologies Inc., Lite-On Technology Corp., Asustek Computer Inc. to jump on the bandwagon. Some aggressive players, such as BenQ Corp. and Universal Scientific Industrial Co., Ltd., have tied up with local and foreign automakers or research institutes to jointly develop advanced navigation systems and in-auto multimedia products.

TAITRA is very confident in the global competitiveness of Taiwan's auto-electronic line, which owns strong engineering skills, high-efficiency mold/die development ability, high-level quality-control and manufacturing capabilities etc. as well as the advantageous support from the island's world-leading IT and electronics lines.
